AA EmTech Master Class Lecture: Between Architecture and Science: Are we Amidst a Quiet Revolution in Architecture?
Join us for Yasha Grobman's lecture at the AA on the coming Tuesday December 6th 2022 at 14:00.
Lecture's title: Between Architecture and Science: Are we Amidst a Quiet Revolution in Architecture?
The 21st century ended the role of a series of logocentric architectural theories that dictated what should be considered good architecture. The new formal freedom in design and fabrication, and the use of engineering tools and technologies are shifting the architecture profession towards a new type of informed architecture. In the lecture, I will argue that we are amidst a scientific revolution in architectural design. This quiet revolution forces architects to lose control, to a certain extent, over the design, while trying to answer fundamental questions regarding how the new architectural forms perform. The argument will be demonstrated through the presentation of architectural research projects that ask basic questions on architectural design and fabrication, such as how we can empirically measure our feelings/reactions to architectural spaces, or how we can shift to a multispecies architectural design.
